The Skillselect system is used in the Australia immigration process to grant a score to each application based on some selection factors. It is necessary for an applicant needs to score a minimum of 65 points for his/her visa to be granted. The following is the list of factors included in the Australia PR points calculator 2019 for point-based evaluation of applications for Australia immigration.
Before 1 July 2011 Australian permanent residency points were being awarded to applicants based on the specific nominated occupation. However, after that, this is no longer the case except applications under the General Skilled Migration program. To be eligible to apply under General Skilled Migration program, it is necessary for a candidate to nominate a skilled occupation on Australia’s Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) or Consolidated Sponsored Occupations List (CSOL).

Maximum points for skilled employment depend on the area of working. However, the working experience must have gained within last ten years.

On moving to Australia with spouse/common-law partner, their skills can counts toward the total score of a primary applicant. The spouse/partner must meet the Australian General Skilled Migration basic requirements for factors like age, English language proficiency, and nominated occupation.
