To check whether a representative is authorized or not, the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has listed some guidelines. So before hiring any immigration representative, find out whether the concerned person or consultancy is eligible or licensed or not to represent immigrants or to give advice on the same.
• Immigration consultants must be a member of Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council.
• Concerned Lawyer or notary must be a member of Canadian provincial or territorial law society
• Paralegals (Ontario only) must be members of the Law Society of Upper Canada
• If the representative works in Canada, then contact better business bureau to know whether there are some complaints against him/her or not
There is a long process which needs to be followed to become a certified or authorized immigration consultant. Therefore many fake or fraud immigration companies befool aspirants of being a CIC authorized immigration lawyer or RCIC (Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants) with their tricky and sugary conversation. They merely act as a guide; however, they don’t have any right to represent any immigration case to Canadian Government agency or Immigration department of Canada.
So, beware of such companies and never afraid of asking about certificates or license from immigration consultancies before paying them. Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC) keeps watch on the activities and ensures competent and professional conduct from the members of authorized immigration consultants. In case, there are errors or omissions, misdeeds, professional misconduct, then consultants can be subject to complaints, and ICCRC is responsible for investigating all such matters.
